An exterior-light alert can be easy to miss when the failed lamp is behind the vehicle. With the vehicle safely parked, check the lights you can observe and have another person help check brake lamps when practical.
Note whether the message appeared after a bulb replacement or only with a particular lighting function. Lamp assemblies, wiring, and control systems can also be involved.
