What is ASE?
ASE is the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. This non-profit, independent organization was established in 1972 to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service. There are over 97,000 ASE master mechanics, averaging over 14 years of experience as certified technicians. They have excelled in numerous auto and light truck disciplines, including:
- Engine repair
- Engine performance
- Automatic transmission/transaxle
- Manual drivetrain and axles
- Suspension and steering
- Brakes
- Electronic systems
- Heating and AC
How Does ASE Certification Work?
Prospective candidates can take ASE certification tests in one or more specialty areas. To reach Master Technician status, individuals must take all ASE exams specified for a given specialty area, usually eight tests. The tests are grouped into specialties for automobile, medium/heavy truck, truck equipment, engine machinists, and more.
